Trip Details

Our visit to SeaWorld Orlando ended up being a tale of three very different perspectives – and a reminder that not every park experience lands the same across generations.

For Gigi, it was disappointing to see how much the park has changed over the years, especially compared to the vibrant, inspiring place it once was. From a parent standpoint, the day felt frustratingly disjointed – with ride closures, limited showtimes, a difficult-to-use app, and overall planning and organization that didn’t quite come together. Add in unexpected costs and a lingering hesitation about supporting a brand with a complicated reputation, and it made for a mixed experience at best.

And yet… for the youngest member of our group, it was a great day. The dolphin show was a clear highlight, and Sesame Street Land delivered exactly the kind of fun and excitement that matters most at that age.

In the end, SeaWorld was enjoyed – just not in the way we expected, or across the board.

The Grandparent Take

Our visit to SeaWorld Orlando was, unfortunately, one of the more disappointing parts of our trip. While we were hopeful for a day filled with engaging shows and memorable experiences, the overall condition of the park felt dated and not particularly well maintained, which took away from the enjoyment.

There is also a significant amount of walking required, which is important to consider for grandparents or anyone with mobility concerns. The layout made it difficult to navigate comfortably without frequent breaks, and there weren’t as many inviting places to rest and recharge as we would have liked.

Dining was another downside. We struggled to find food options that felt appealing or worth the cost, which is always frustrating during a full day at a park.

That said, there were a few bright spots. The Sesame Street area was a joy to experience with Captain Go-Go, who is still young enough to be genuinely excited by the characters, and the animal shows were engaging and fun to watch together. Those moments brought genuine smiles and gave us a glimpse of what the park can still offer.

What made the experience particularly disappointing, though, was a sense of nostalgia and loss. I have such wonderful memories of visiting SeaWorld when my own children were young – a time when the park felt vibrant, inspiring, and full of discovery for curious young minds fascinated by the ocean and sea life. It once felt like a place where families came to learn, connect, and create lasting memories together. Seeing it in its current state was genuinely sad, especially knowing what it used to be.

Overall, while there are still small pockets of enjoyment, the experience did not meet expectations. Between the upkeep, dining, and overall atmosphere, this is not a destination we would prioritize or recommend at this time.

The Parent Take

We decided to extend our time in Orlando and add a park day, ultimately choosing SeaWorld Orlando. On paper, it made a lot of sense. The single-day ticket cost was more reasonable than other parks, and since we knew we’d want multiple days elsewhere, this felt like a good fit. It also seemed like the right moment for our family – Captain Go-Go is still squarely in his Sesame Street era (especially Cookie Monster), and we know that window is short. The mix of family-friendly attractions and more adult rides also felt like it could strike a good balance for everyone.

That said, we went in with some hesitation. Reviews were very mixed, and the park’s broader reputation in recent years gave us pause. We decided to move forward – purchasing discounted tickets ahead of time that included a complimentary meal option – and hoped for the best.

Unfortunately, once inside, it became clear that many of the negative reviews aligned closely with our experience. The park layout was confusing, with limited or unclear signage, and the app was not particularly helpful. Ride information was often inaccurate, and showtimes listed in the app would seemingly disappear without explanation. Show offerings themselves felt limited, forcing us to prioritize and miss things we would have otherwise planned around.

Despite not being an overwhelmingly large park, the layout requires a significant amount of walking, so renting a stroller ended up being a very good decision. Several rides were closed, and those that were operating came with their own frustrations – line cutting, inconsistent crowd control, frequent ride stoppages, and staff who often seemed either disengaged or unsure how to manage issues. One of the more surprising challenges was how often ride design limitations led to guests being turned away due to size restrictions. We witnessed multiple instances of families being split up at the last minute, which felt uncomfortable and, frankly, avoidable with better communication upfront.

Food was another major disappointment. Even with the included meal, the experience was frustrating. Finding participating locations and understanding what was included lacked clear guidance, and staff interactions often felt rude and dismissive. The food itself was underwhelming – not something we would have chosen if it hadn’t been included.

There were, however, a few bright spots. The dolphin show was genuinely enjoyable – engaging, well done, and educational enough to hold both adult and child interest. We also appreciated being able to split up for a bit, with Captain happily exploring Sesame Street Land with Gigi while we snuck in a couple of the more adult-focused rides.

In an effort to salvage time, we opted to purchase a fast pass, which helped, but also significantly increased the overall cost of the day. Between that and the surprisingly high price of snacks, the total spend ended up approaching what we would expect at more polished, better-organized parks – where the value tends to feel more justified.

In the end, while there were moments of fun, the overall experience felt disjointed and frustrating to navigate as parents. It had the ingredients of a great park day, but lacked the execution needed to bring it all together and the magic to make it memorable.

The Kid Take

I don’t know what everyone else was complaining about – I had a GREAT time at SeaWorld Orlando. This place rocks.

First, we saw dolphins doing tricks and jumping and splashing everywhere, which was honestly hilarious. Then we saw whales doing even bigger tricks, which was super cool and also very splashy (I liked that part a lot). My parents rented a stroller and honestly, I cannot recommend this mode of transportation enough. I had a great view and was well rested once we arrived in each part of the park.

My favorite thing about the day was Sesame Street Land. It had rides that were just my size – maybe a little slower than the bigger ones I have been on, but still very fun. Lines weren’t too long, and I got to ride my favorite rides lots of times. And I got to meet my favorite Sesame Street friends, which was a big deal. There was even a parade, and everyone was smiling and waving and it felt like a party.

I also went on a bigger roller coaster with my parents that had penguins (very important detail), and it was AWESOME, but the line was very cold (probably because penguins like that.) My parents kind of got nervous once the ride started because even though I was tall enough, they thought I might be a little young and it was more intense than expected… but I loved it. That is exactly my kind of ride. But Dad did hold my arm bar really tight to make sure I didn’t fall out – silly Dad, you are supposed to put your arms up on roller coasters!

I, for one, liked the pizza. I think I was the only one, but that just meant more for me, and the many birds that came to watch me have my meal.

Overall: dolphins, whales, rides, Sesame Street, and pizza. I had a really, really good day.
